Why Vision Boards don't work

Why vision boards don’t work

Visualisation is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do, so let’s look at 3 reasons why a vision board may NOT work for you.

“A dream without a plan is just a wish”.

Let’s explore If a vision board really does work?

And if so how you can increase your success of manifesting your dreams and ambitions using a vision board.

What is a vision board?

It's a tool used to represent your wishes or goals. A vision board is a collage of images and words intended to act as inspiration or motivation.

So here are 3 reason why a vision board isn’t working.

1 - Vision boards don’t work when they aren’t aligned to your everyday actions.

On my 2024 vision board, I have a health related goal. Yet if I don’t set myself up for success by implementing strategies and habits to make this a reality then it won’t come to fruition no matter how much I aspire to fit into my size 8 red dress. I’m certainly not going to attain my goal, if I eat bad food and don’t exercise.

To make dreams and goals come to life, you have to change what you’re doing. Alot of people don’t like change so to increase your success, make peace with transformation and action.

2 - You’re not setting realistic timelines for your expectations.

The universe works in mysterious ways, I have experienced first hand how something can manifest within hours. Yet other goals seem to take longer so much longer than I hoped, yet I know it’s still coming to me all in good time. So if my vision board is time bound by a 12 month time frame. Then you need to make sure you have a good game plan to make it happen. To avoid getting disheartened and even doubt the magic of a vision board. Perhaps ask yourself if I have a realistic timeframe? Having a strategy and timelines of your plan will greatly assist in your dreams coming true.

3 - You could have an unconscious or conscious block on your vision.

If my vision is to get out of debt yet I haven’t started my finance course or I keep using my credit card on things I don’t need. Then, it doesn't matter how many times I add this to my vision board, until I identify that resistance and address the pattern, then I will forever be disappointed that I didn’t achieve this goal.

What is the psychology behind vision boards?

Elite athletes have used visualisation techniques for years as part of their training. You can find many studies online that show the power of visualisation.

Mindset matters so if you believe they work then you certainly increase your success. Our minds are powerful tool, where you can turn a thought or desire into reality.

According to Forbes magazine, TD Bank surveyed business owners and found they are twice as confident they’ll achieve their goals than those who don’t visualise in some way.

So If I want to be a speaker and I can visual me up on stage and image that feeling of people clapping after I talk then it has a dramatic effect on that happening.

I also need to then make a action plan of what would it take to be a speaker? Do I need to take a course. Put together a speaker kit. Advertise that I’m a speaker

So in this survey One in five small business owners used a vision board when starting their business;

  • 76% of business owners said that their business is where they visualised it would be when they started it.
  • 82% of small business owners that used a vision board from the start reported that they have achieved more than half the goals they included on that board.

So there are plenty of statistics to show that Visions Board do help business owner achieve their goals.

When to make a vision board

Most of us feel most inspired creating a Vision Board heading into a new year. I like to make my board December / January, then review and update it each year. Although, I think you can make and revise a vision board anytime of the year.

What’s the best thing to put on a vision board?

Here are 3 things you can include;

Goal-oriented inspiration- Example Earn $300K this year

Theme-related ideas- such as a travel destinations e.g visit France and Italy

Intuitive dreams- you're not sure what you want, you use pictures that appeal to you, it's the idea of it.

I also like to break my down into Business, Development and Personal aspirations

How to make a vision board

Start by spending some time sitting still and thinking about your intention before starting the creative process.

Vision Boards traditionally were made with say a pinboard, you went through magazines and cut out images that inspired you which were pinned or stuck on the board. If you are a tactile person especially a crafty person you might do this.

But can a Vision Board be digital and still effective?

YES! Mine are and they’ve come true. Last year I have 15 things on my board and all but 2 things have yet manifested. Not bad?

I design by Vision Board in Canva and used a combination of images I had such like a photo of me in certain place. I also use stock images to represent the feeling or location.

I like to use images and words to inspire me along with the written goal itself. For example Grow my mailing list by 5000.

I also add in my word for the year. My word is my north star, my theme of what and how I what to live or be inspired. My word for 2024 is Transformation.

Where to put your vision board?

Somewhere you can see it really helps to remind you of what your focusing on. I have mine save on my desk top and phone.

What we measure grows… So having it somewhere you see it everyday has a powerful impact.

I also recognise the important of detachment when manifesting. You don’t want desperate energy. So when you create your board, you might want to put it away once you make an actionable plan and feel it, sometimes knowing it will be done.

I love dreaming big and a Vision board allow me do this. Just remember, the universe doesn’t always operate on Eastern Australian daylight saving time.

Making a vision board is a powerful tool to help bring your business and personal goals to life. So once you create your board, I recommend writing out a plan to help you achieve your dreams and ambitions. Start at the goal and work backwards. What steps are you going to take.

Ask yourself what are 5 things you need to make this goal a reality and what are 5 things you would have to stop doing to bring this to life?

My favourite question to ask is when I want to manifest something - What would it take to have…fill in the blanks.

Print out your vision board and or put it on computer desktop wallpaper.

Put it somewhere you can see it or look at regularly to serve as a reminder of your goals and motivate you to take the necessary actions to turn those visions into reality.

Vision board are powerful

"What we focus on expands and becomes our reality.

Where intention goes, energy flows
